It is so important to know the difference between the roles as there is always a misconception. Some venues may tell you, “you don’t need a wedding planner because we have an in-house person who can take care of all your needs.” When in reality the person they assign to delegate the tasks is either one of the following: the facility/venue coordinator or the maitre’d.

The Facility/ Venue Coordinator is very aware of the venue, knows the ins and outs as they are often the ones you meet first hand when giving a facility tour, however they run the logistics of the facility only. The facility coordinator often does not consider the overall experience for the guests and does not honor simple requests made by the guests of honor such as wanting an unplugged wedding ceremony. The Maitre’d oversees the kitchen and wait staff only. They make sure the food comes out on time and is your go-to person in the event something is wrong with the food. It is not their job to oversee your wedding as it is outside their line of work.

What typically happens the day of your wedding is the Facility Manager will have you as their client under the impression that they will be present the day of the event to ensure you everything is covered however they are not there for the full day, sometimes are not there at all (misleading, I know) and often passing along your wedding details to the Maitre’d the week of your wedding if not the day of your wedding. Don’t allow this to be you, hire an event planner in the beginning phases of planning your event.
